This is a very small museum in the downtown of a small town, but worth it. The collection isn't huge, but they have some nice little displays. The local wildlife exhibit is small in size, but has a good variety including footprints and some bones. Some of the museum is still under development, with the beginning framework for a new exhibit on the dust bowl that is open to the public while they're building it out. It has a nice little experience where you enter to a small home to experience the sounds of a dust storm with a narrator giving a first person description of life during the dust bowl period. It makes for a nice immersive experience.

Free museum in small town surprisingly big. Took us 45 mins to go through not reading everything. Goes over town's history and the XIT Ranch history as well as the dust bowl. Some really great displays.

This small but interesting museum was definitely worth a stop. As you'd expect, there are several panels and artifacts presenting the history of the legendary 3-million-acre X.I.T. Ranch. There is also a nice wildlife display. My favorite aspect, though, was an extremely well done exhibit on the prairies and plains--and the destruction thereof during the settlement of the West, leading to the Dust Bowl. The bison, photos and video experience in the prairie house were top notch. The gift shop has neat X,I.T. gear and a helpful selection of books. Admission is by voluntary donation and tickets are not required.

Interesting history of our state that needs more exposure. Did you know that the XIT ranch is how our state paid to build the capitol building? We left the museum eager to do more research on this bit of history.
