Amazing experience, I highly recommended!

Our group did the Private Tour option - it is spectacular and a great value for the price! We were able to have a guided tour from the owner, Rob Hults - and met several birds up close and learned an absolute ton.

Rob said, "When you love something, you learn about it." And that love was very evident in the facility, its care for their birds, and the staff and volunteers.

The sanctuary also has a picnic area and 3 hiking trails that we didn't get to experience this trip, but hopefully we will next time!

We camp in door county every year and this is the first time we've been to the sanctuary. Our private tour group was 6 friends and a 2 year old and everyone loved it. You could tell how much Rob loved these birds and how the birds loved him back. They are all well cared for and amazing to see up close.

The tour was stroller friendly and my toddler loved to see his favorite birds in real life and up close. We learned a lot about each bird and even politics behind their protection. I think if the time was available we would have been there all day meeting birds and learning!

Our group is excited to visit again!

The absolute best animal experience EVER. The Raptors they have are absolutely breathtaking. The Private tour was Amazing, we learned SO much information on Raptors. I'm so glad there are people willing to dedicate their time and money to help protect and care for these beautiful animals, that wouldn't be able to survive on their own. Will definitely be back.

we visited open door on 9/2 and had such a great time viewing the birds and learning about them. the folks running this sanctuary are extremely kind and knowledgeable. every half hour of the day, a different bird would be taken out by a volunteer to show us up close and give a lesson on. the sanctuary is on a beautiful piece of land with lots of apple trees. after you are done, make sure to stop by the gift shop to further support this amazing group. we can’t stop “RAVEN” about our time here! (I wonder if you guys will ever have a raven?!)

Open Door Bird Sanctuary is the real deal. We did a private tour and the owner/director was our guide. It was clear from start to finish that he and the other volunteers are truly passionate about what they do and care deeply about creating the best environment possible for the birds. We got an up-close view of so many unique birds, learned so much about them, and learned all about the role Open Door and other bird sanctuaries play in caring for injured birds and educating the public on how to help create a world where these beautiful creatures can thrive. Rob welcomed our questions and we left feeling like we'd just spent a leisurely afternoon with an old friend. These 2 adults had a great time, but families with children would have a great time too, as Rob is happy to tailor your tour accordingly. This is a great organization that I am happy to have visited and would encourage others to give them a visit too!

What a hidden gem in Door County! Interactive, educational and fun experience. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. The program, from raptor show to bird feeding to prairie walk, is thoughtful and provides a unique and hands-on experience interacting with nature. We loved every minute there and would highly recommend!
