I'm writing this review hoping someone at NYU will take it to heart and give thought to the user experience online, and to the front office staff / telephone option to make an appointment or non-option as the case is).

I'm giving the Child Study Center (CSC) one star because the appointment process for a new provider has become unnecessarily difficult and lacks any route for communication. This review has nothing to do with the therapists or my family's experience with them there.

My whole family goes for therapy there, and with out current therapists there is no problem scheduling. Or, if a therapist provides a referral to another provider, also no problem.

Problem 1: Making an appointment for a new therapist or provider cannot be done in person or over the phone. If I want to make a new appointment with a new provider for an issue or type of therapy not in the practice of our current therapists, and I don't have a referral from one of those current therapists, I have to go through the website to schedule an intake call. There's the first breakdown - I cannot call to make an appointment with a new provider, or make one in person at the front desk on the 7th floor. That really should not be the case.

Making an appointment for an intake should be the TOP priority for any practice because that's the route for new patients, working with new providers, in other words new business. This is where the CSC really needs to trouble shoot.

Problem 2: The clickable route on the webiste to make a new patient or intake appointment (whatever you wanna call that) should be OBVIOUS. It isn't. See screenshot of the NYU CSC website - the schedule appointment link on the right is not obvious. If you scroll down, you see a big link for it - but that's again too far down to be obvious. User experience, people, user experience!

Problem 3: At least one option on the website to schedule are a dead end. For example, "video visit" goes nowhere.

Problem 3: You can't use Chrome because one or the other won't let you complete the appointment. It ends in an error message.

Problem 4: lag time between confirmation email and access to change or cancel the appointment. Now, when I actually make an appointment, the first confirmation email has no contact number at all - if you want to confirm or change anything, you don't yet have anyone to contact. There is a MyChart account link, but again it's too early for the appointment to be reflected there, so any mistakes or changes have to be made - later. And that's what the experience with CSC is like - it can take days to make or reschedule an appointment for an intake or new provider.

The second confirmation email comes about 4-5 hours later. Better late than never. That one has a good clickable link that takes you to your MyChart account and shows the appointment. Ok, fine. So, about 5-6 hours to find out I do have an appointment. Not terrible.

Problem 5: Now what if you want to use the MyChart system? Well, 2 problems - first, you can only search by type of provider, if you want for example a family therapist or a conflict or anger management therapist, you're outta luck because you can't search by that specific of an area of specialty.

If you get frustrated like I did and call the number given to me at this point, they refer you back to the website. But, you can't make an appointment through this person on the phone.

Ridiculous.

It needs to be easy, straight forward, fast - like three clicks, or 1 telephone call, and you're done with the process.

The way it is now, it seems like they haven't paid attention to how cumbersome the process can be, and so just haven't fixed it.

ADDENDUM: I was referred to the website to make an intake appointment for a new provider. The staff who referred me to teh website knew my kid was a current patient. Three days later, I get this message: "you would not need a screening call as these are only for new patients / please connect with your current provider via MyChart to enter an internal referral."

The therapists here do not care about your children and will not make any sort of contingency plan once a patient is over 18, despite promising for years. If you want to overmedicate your kids this may be the place for you. With over 1 and less than 4 TOTAL psychiatrists, I wish you luck receiving medication. The staff and employees on the phone lines are incredibly rude and have hung up on me more time than I can count. If your child ends up in the hospital expect a 1-2 business week wait before you cross their mind. FOR GOD’S SAKE DO NOT GO TO NYU LANGONE!!! A private therapist/psychiatrist that is actually invested in your well-being is the best thing. Remember that Langone is a teaching hospital before you send your children there. My therapist was Jeremy Wernick, who completely dropped me after 2+ years of treatment, during covid-19, while I was experiencing massive withdrawals from benzodiazepines that I had been prescribed since I was 8, from others at Langone, because I was acting rude and frustrated. I thought a mental health professional would understand the horrible withdrawal symptoms associated with tranqs, instead I was met with complete silence and a block out.

I have tried for over 3 months just to get someone on the phone. Not a single soul has called me back or responded to my messages. Good luck getting through on the phone. It’s impossible. Godforbid your child needs help… they are left for dead. Don’t recommend!

Dr. Katherine Ort scammed my child's insurance and tried to bill another insurance company and didn't file with the correct insurance. I called so many times. This could not possibly simply a mistake.

I love my therapist. He’s more than fantastic and has helped me and my mental health an incredible amount in the last three or so years i’ve been seeing him. I highly recommend Jeremy Wernick to anybody that needs a therapist. 🙂
