The school is way too expensive for what they are offering!!! I can go and obtain a Masters Degree at a SUNY or CUNY college for the same amount as their tuition; or get it for less!!! If you don't get financial aid you will have to take out a loan (for the year about $10,000), and you will still have to pay out of pocket fees as well as the fee for the steno machine. If you can't afford to buy the wave you have to rent an old machine from the school. Court Reporting is not easy to learn and there is not a lot of help for night students. Their tutoring and support classes are given in the day; catering to day students. More than likely, If a night student could attend in the day they wouldn't be a night student! Most night students work. The teachers were okay, some were supportive, and others just didn't reply to emails or phone calls. Really think this one out, because you can leave owing over $20,000 for just a cetificate or an associates degree, and that's only if you can get past the speed typing tests.

NYCI is very mixed up - the school has no absolute guidance for any student. All they care about is the Student Loans and they (the head of the department) tells brand new students to order a "WAVE" computer steno machine. It sells for about $1,800 but NYCI might sell it to you for $1,600 and it gets pumped into your student loan.

Some students are earning $14.00 an hour working at staples or starbux and the school pushes them to purchase that $1,600 machine called a WAVE - which is above and beyond necessary. Quite frankly, it is much more educational to have a steno machine with paper - so the student can re read what they just wrote.

The WAVE requires computer software and that too is expensive.

I feel that you need to ask very educated questions when you start in that school - but if you have financial aid... you are just a lamb going off to the slaughter. BEWARE - if you get financial aid - that school wants to make a lot of money off you.

Court Reporting is a very hard skill to learn and it is not for everyone. They don't tell you that as you sign up for classes under financial Aid. You should just take Introductory Steno for your first course to see if you can master the skill of the typing. Otherwise you are throwing away thousands of dollars.

one of the worse schools ever no real guidance with the student all they seem to care about is the loans and making sure they stay on top of the students to make payment, they could careless about their students two of my friends have left the school. its such a shame that they would not thrive on having a great relationship with their own student. don't waste your money with this school honestly touro collage is way better!
