I hope one day Shelby county school district find people that want to work; and know how to talk to the general public on the phone. I’m not sure where y'all keep finding ppl that pick up the phone only to hang up.

My grand daughter goes to 1st grade and she’s in Cordova and being an adult child of a retired teacher of an elementary school I watched my mother create study plans.

The teacher my grand daughter has has no idea on how to communicate with parents no notice sent home about anything she even told her students today the day before the last day of school that they didn’t need to come cause she was not going to be there.

I am glad that my grand daughter will not be returning to this school in the fall. The principal and vice principal do not care. When an assault by the teacher happened and it was brought to their attention they refused to do anything about it

I will make my review simple. Surrounding schools are about a 3-min drive, yet they got kids going to a school in Cordova that's closer to schools in the surrounding area of Bartlett.

Wait, there's more.
Home in Cordova where Cordova high school is about 3-4 minutes away are zoned to go to Bolton which is 20 minute commute.

This is a prime example why who ever is over the schools are incompetent. They got all these degrees, yet they can't make proper decisions.

In terms of office buildings and school buildings, this building was dirty on the outside and felt old and unclean on the inside. There was obvious mold stains covering the building and the technology there look like it was at least a decade out of date.

Instead of having an easy way to map the building, they have printed out signs tape to the wall to lead you where to go. They were not very clear all the time and for most of my visit I felt like I was going down a place I shouldn't have been. This is almost unheard of in any other major city I've been to.

Even though I only went to one room in one building, The staff was quite nice and inviting. If it wasn't for that I would have had a far worse experience. Though I still feel like the experience could have been better.

As a former teacher, the insurance and benefits are laughable. We went to teach at a suburban school we get top notch primary care, testing, and imaging complelty free. The clinic is clean and professional. The clinic at SCS is old, dingy and dirty. The nurse couldn't even do a proper swab for strep. SCS clinic is mostly sick care, where as at Care4Us the care is holistic and includes preventative. The small pay cut we took to change schools has already paid for itself with the access to health care.

Cigna with SCS is horrible! High premiums, high co pays, and still high dr Bill's. With MedBen we have high premiums but nearly every everything is covered, the few co payments we have are half of what they were with Cigna.

We also have a certified mechanic shop at school the kids use for training and this has saved us a ton of money in car repairs.

At SCS they are really great with marketing and publicity. You will find all kinds of articles in the news about literacy, first covid HVAC etc...the reality is that's one school but the articles will make it seem district wide. The other schools are ripe with mold, malfunctioning units, leaky windows, soiled carpets, and terribly poor reading scores. Their summer school is basically a place to cajole kids together to babysit while parents work. Their is no real study or advancing skills.

That was my biggest beefs with the schools. Other reviewers that mention rude, unprofessionalism is right on the money. As a SpED teacher your case load is barely manageable, switching schools we have SPED support, sped clerical, engaging superiors that support teachers. At SCS they are so worried about being sued, they will throw you under the bus immediately.

Dont be fooled by the higher pay, it will cost you your health to work for SCS.

The Tennessee State Legislature recently passed a bill CC9002, House Bill No. 9077 / Senate Bill No. 9014 that disallows schools in the state of Tennessee to force Universal Masking. Needless to say, at the 11th hour, a Shelby County Federal Judge blocked this common sense piece of legislation from going into full-effect. I'm all for being safe & taking precautions, however, when it leads to medical discrimination against children who's parents don't see the need for forced-masking in schools, that's where I draw a line in the sand. If you want to where a mask, go ahead, if you want to take a vaccine, that is your God given Right, but what isn't your right, is to tell us that we (most importantly our children) have to if we don't want, or feel a genuine need to.

I would give a zero if an option. Information given that masks were highly recommended, but how can that be, when teachers and other employees are maskless? Not exactly setting a good example. This is in a school with younger children not able to get a vaccine. They need to look at school systems like Mississippi, Georgia and Arkansas where they were open maybe two weeks and are now virtual. Masks and other measures recommended by medical professionals and CDC at this time with the Delta Variant would be just common sense.

They decided to open schools in the peak of Delta Varient. White Station Middle has no social distancing. Kids are crowding in the hallways. Half the tables in after care (maintained by YMCA) are empty and they don't allow students to maintain social distancing but rather crowd them onto few tables in the front. Entire school board should be held responsible for outbreaks if any.
