I've been shopping at this particular HyVee store for the past decade and a half, but can no longer do so. Here are the reasons:

1. The quality of foods prepared on-site has been consistently decreasing. Twice in the past year I have purchased goods from the bakery which ended up being stale or overcooked. There have been other times when I've gone into the bakery section looking for something and the goods simply looked unappetizing or mismade. The goods at the deli and meat counter are in a similar position, not helped by the counters being staffed in the afternoon by employees who know little to nothing about what they're selling.

2. The variety of pre-packaged foods has plummeted. A short list of things I can no longer get there that I used to: Salsa (they still have salsa, but decided to stop carrying the brands I enjoy); Cat food that my cats like (which for reference is any of five or six different varieties of fancy feast, which are also the ones they decided to stop carrying); Certain kinds of pasta (these are inconsistent, but I also haven't seen small ring macaroni in a long while); Many spices (they famously are no longer carrying tones, but they've also decreased the variety they carry from other companies); Frozen Pizzas (they have a large variety of brands, but tend to only carry the most basic flavors from each brand); Shampoo (again, stopped carrying the brand/variety I enjoy, which I now just purchase elsewhere).

3. Even in items which are regularly stocked, availability is unreliable. For items from dry pasta, to kitty litter, to cookies, to milk, I have often times had to come back the next day or later in the week to find what I need.

4. The pharmacy is extremely inconsistent at being able to fill my prescription on time. I almost always have to wait several days. On one occasion I needed to wait nearly two weeks for a prescription that needs to be filled monthly.

5. The quality of service has declined. Several years ago they ceased being a 24 hour store, and have decreased their hours one other time since then. During the hours in which they are open, they have fewer staff members in any given part of the store, and the staff members are less knowledgeable and less capable of helping than before. I have made specific complaints about the lack of stock on certain items, or asked why they seemingly stopped carrying something. I have been brushed off each time--at least for the times when the manager had any clue what was going on and could give me an answer.

That's not to say I can't still get most of my shopping done there. I could. But when their prices are similar to anywhere else, and I'm going to have to go to other places to get what I need regardless, why not just add everything I *could* get from HyVee to one of those other stops?

Well, that's what I'll be doing from hereon out, and I'll be encouraging my local family and friends to do the same.

I love this hyvee. The management address issues in a correct and respectful way , the Starbucks staff is actually positive and encoruagjng which is exactly the role of the barista to spread positivity and uplift every in on their daily routine , and I’ve had more then a few friends work there. My dad was in the store last night and had parked in the handicapped spot which was VERY ICY! He had purchased some ice melt to sprinkle on the ground in front of him as he walked for traction since the store had not done that yet. One of the store managers named Todd started yelling at him to store and that if he didn’t stop using the ice melt he would never be a lot in the store again. Salt your parking lot instead of yelling at your customers. Very upset with the store this is extremely unprofessional.

Even though it seems to advertise as a drug store and huge beer/wine department, still has a small grocery department with fresh vegetables and meat. The garden center is also a big plus!

DO NOT get fresh chicken at this store. It is always rotten even though it is not past the expiration date. I have been shopping at this location for a year and the chicken always smells rotten and makes me sick if I eat it. I can only get chicken at Walmart now.

To be honest, I don't really care for Hy-Vee. I think they're too expensive, most Hy-Vee stores have a huge variety - sometimes too big. I really only go there to buy HyVee ice cream - it's my favorite!

Worst location in Iowa City. Apparently they believe that closing at 11pm means they can start threatening tou and following you to tell you they are closed at 11pm on the dot. Not even Walmart is this bad…as high as their prices are…this level of disdain for customers is inexcusable.

I was refused the use of my legal tender (Quarters) they wanted me to use the coin machine even though it charges a fee. I'm a good customer at that store and spend a lot of money there. I refused the machine and went to the store on waterfront and had no problem. The store needs to be informed what legal tender means.

Hy-Vee pharmacy today I have a great experience with the lady named Karen. Now in the past I have had to call because she has been rude and disrespectful. It happened twice so I called the second time but today she was very nice and respectful and kind and I just enjoy the time I spent on the phone even know she was putting in orders to refill meds for me and my kids. You can tell she was just smiling though the interaction I had on the phone with the tone of voice. Thank you for making my day better by just being cheerful.
