As a mature international student, be aware that you might be stuck in dorms, where all the students want to hunker down and study. The student Union is fun, but the crowd is young and usually very, very drunk. Choose the more classy pub on campus, you might bump into tutors or other people you might like talking to.
Coming from Switzerland, the yearly fee is exorbitant! And seeing what they teach in the 4 years at a university in the UK, you are better off doing an apprenticeship in your own country, where you get to work in that field while learning all of the same stuff.
I liked the campus and dorms on the grounds, but don't forget that Edinburgh is a really great city and only a short bus ride away!

Guest experience on a weekend visit. Beautiful well maintained landscaped gardens and lawns.
The campus trails were a delightful experience providing hidden gems of information as I followed parts of the Tree Trails and the Discovery Trail.
An amazing experience to find The Lawn behind Riccarton building and know it's beauty has been maintained for several 100 years!

Joined in December 2023 to complete the MSc Business and Organizational Psychology program online. Paid for 4 courses upfront (over $8,000 CDN). Had issues from the very start. Links not accessible in the modules, log in details not provided before course started so couldn't access some of the course materials, unable to print some materials for study purposes, just to name a few. Took me 8 months just to get to lesson 4 in the first module. Became very frustrated, filled with anxiety and completely demotivated. Cancelled the program and now they want to refund only 3 out of the 4 courses. It's costing me $2,000 for one course where I completed 3 out of 13 lessons and nothing was even submitted or graded. Completely unethical business practices and very unorganized. Buyer beware.

Absolutely trash university, complete waste of money and time. You regret taking admission here. I have been waiting for my degree certificate after paying all my fees but the replies are useless and frustrating.

I highly rated this University as highly inclusive. After two years into his full time course my son broke his neck leaving him as a tetroplegic. After a year out, the disability welfare officer, course leader and careers advisor worked together with my son to get him back into his course. Lectures times and venues were altered so he could attend, student support was organised and field trip days organised so he always had a tutor with him if he couldn't get up close to the exhibit.
My son needed another year out of studying but was welcomed back when he was fit and well and finally finished his BSC after 81/2 years.
Even graduation was highly organised and catered for him well. There was an official waiting for him at registration to talk him through the presentation.
The company that organised the gown sent one out to his home so he could get ready more easily at home. Unfortunately the wrong gown was sent but a short email generated someone looking out for him when he arrived to organise a more appropriate gown and help him get organised.

As a mother it was so reassuring to know that my son was being well catered for educationally as well as his welfare.

As far as I am concerned Heriot Watt is the best University in the country.
