Nothing great about having to repay loans, however, I've had several interactions with their support team regarding my loans and they have always went above and beyond in supporting me and my questions. Any small question I can call them and they'll guide me right through it, and their phone line is always 0 wait. Wish that they were better at communicating stuff through online communication, but a little old fashion phone calling never hurt nobody.

This company did not send me notices in writing when it was time to recertify, and then hit my credit report with two "90 day late" payments on my credit report in 2017. I was debt free and almost at a 680, and it dropped my credit to a 512. It is still on my credit report. I am suing them for damages.

Hey, I don’t love paying my student loans back, but GSM&R has serviced my undergraduate loans for decades now and they’ve ALWAYS been great to work with. Over the years, I have called their main number with very little understanding of what my situation was, and each and every time the person on the other end was patient, personable, and thorough in explaining my status and options to me. More than that, they have always been remarkably proactive in telling me things that benefited me, such as various forbearance eligibilities I might have, the best time to consolidate, or even filling out electronic forms for me and sending them to my email for my electronic signature to make it easy as pie. One time a representative explained to me that, because I’d been making my loan payments while in deferment (which I did all throughout my undergraduate and graduate education), I’d accrued that many months of future forbearance credit, which turned out to be vital during a few lean years down the line. I understand that loan companies are for-profit corporations, but I have always come away with the feeling that GSM&R had my best interests in mind, not their own profit motive. Especially remarkable for a company whose services I had basically no choice to utilize or not.

Not ever fun to repay loans, but I'm ~25% repaid on my loans, and I have had a very easy experience with GSMR. Customer service has always been friendly and helpful, I appreciate their knowledge as I try to understand this system myself. I hope the remaining 75% continues to be as smooth!

Does not have a direct email to keep WRITTEN correspondence, when contacted DENIES to communicate through WRITTEN correspondence.

Pulled funds from my account late DAYS after I submitted payment, by the time their attempted to pull funds the specified checking account already had less than sufficient funds due to other transactions. Do they expect me to keep funds ready for them 24/7 days after I transferred funds This caused my bank to pin me with not just one but TWO NSFs (Non sufficient fees). Because the second time they attempted (WITHOUT my permission or notifying me there wasn't enough funds), there was still insufficient funds.

Rookie third tier loan servicer, pay your interest to someone else that actually treats you like a customer.

Update Oct 30 2021:
Service still sucks. Their website is down and I can't even pay off the rest of my loans. Just take my money already. They're going to start charging interest after January 31st. Is this some sort of way for them to accrue interest? I will never do business with these losers again.

This company makes zero effort to help a person pay off their loaners. I’ve called 3 times to ask them to please re-calculate (re-disclose) my new principle balance so I am paying less interest and every time I call they give me the runaround for why it hasn’t happened. Also, I’ve asked to speak the a supervisor a handful of times and been denied because they are busy. Stay away from this loan management company if you can. They are truly operating under the devil.

When I called the customer resource number I spoke to Laura, she walked me through how to get my payment options up and had a very kind and pleasant spirit when offering information about how I can succeed in maying payments. I recommend calling and given Granite State the benefit of the doubt. There are many negative reviews that do not justify the service and skills of their team members. Owing money is scary, having interest rates are alarming, but when you owe money you should not criticizes the people trying to help you with your payments. As this was my first experience I all around appreciated the help and support.

My suggestion; loans are a tool to aid you in success, not to carry you forever. Make payments as soon as you can and earlier than they are due, it will halt your anxiety and offer you better resources to being debt free in the future. Your debt is not the customer service representatives fault, treat them with courtesy and respect and you will also receive respect.

We just paid off my husband's student loans. We have been working with Granite State for YEARS. They have phenomenal customer service and always was happy to take a few extra dollars to put on one loan vs the while thing, to snow ball the 5 loans. Their computer system isn't designed for that, but they were happy to figure it out, month by month. This way was very effective on knocking the loans out. Yes, paying student loans suck, but this company made things so much easier. Thank you, Granite State.
