This is a great FSU outpost conducting research on marine life with a strong emphasis on oyster habitats. The scientists are highly motivated and knowledgeable. We had first hand opportunity to explore the gulf species on a boat tour as well as via preserved bodies in the lab.

Definitely schedule a tour if you can.

General Tours are every Friday 11-4pm (and you can tour the Research boat every 3rd Friday in the month). Very excited people who want to share their work with you. Very informative. The best kept secret is their "Evening at the Edge of the Sea" -- held summers every 2 weeks. Its 3 hours of learning starting in the classroom (for about 1/2 hr) and then exploring the marsh, grass, etc with a tour guide to answer any questions. This might be good for older kids (since its walking in water, moving over oysters that are sharp, etc.). An amazing event if you can get to one. Bring Water - it gets hot out there and there is no shade!

Hidden gem in the Forgotten Coast. Free tours of the labs and they even helped to identify a skull we had found. Great to see research in action and even meet some of the scientists making it happen!
