Stephanie at Digital Downsizing came to my rescue. I had an 8mm 5in reel that was in really bad shape. It was over 70 years old and had been kept in garages in NJ, FL and GA during its lifetime. It fell apart in my hands, was brittle, curled and smelled bad! Contacted several places and they didn't want to touch it. I knew a lot was not salvageable but some parts and pieces might be worthwhile. Digital Downsizing came through! She explained how many parts didn't come out the best and made it understandable. I received the scanned film in a download form and have it safely in Dropbox and my computer. I have been doing some editing to it as I put it on a family only site on FB. It is great fun seeing these old images, even if they had been fried!
The filming is rough, but I was surprised how good the color was.
Unfortunately, the "75 year old subject" wants the film back! I tried to help him understand that his children will be throwing these away because they have it in digital form. His response is they just need a 'good projector and it'll be fine'. I pick my battles!
I truly appreciated how good the communication went with Stephanie and how fast the process was. If you have a question it will be answered very quickly!
Sending it from Conway, SC to Rapid City, SD seemed like a crazy thing to do. But I am so glad I did.

I reached out about getting our videos transferred from the VHS-c to something more digital. Turn around time first off was very fast! I sent her 20 tapes to do and I got them back in probably two weeks! Secondly, watching the videos from my childhood almost brought tears to my eyes. So memories that were saved by being transferred is just amazing. I would 100% recommend using this company to trust and transform any further tapes if we should find more. I did this huge project of purging 22 plastic bins in my garage, and thanks to Digital Downsizing, I was able to have my memories preserved from old films and photos of every size and shape. Amazing how all that space that had to be used for storage was reduced to a thumb drive. Magic!

Over the past few years I have had Digital Downsizing digitize literally thousands of pieces of old media. They have worked on hundreds of 16mm family films, some dating back to the thirties and many in the various stages of decay from vinegar syndrome. They cleaned the film and made crisp high resolution copies.

The variety of media they can handle is enormous. Besides 16mm home movies, I have sent over slides, SVHS-C, MiniDV, VHS, reel to reel audio, cassette tapes, and of course photos of various sizes. Now all my family’s memories going back decades are available to me as high resolution digital files.
