Crosley Tower... oh what to say about this sweet, sweet piece of architecture. Home to many of the University of Cincinnati's beloved ghosts, Crosley stays iconically haunted. In case you need a better workout, Crosley provides an exciting amount of the steepest stairs you will ever find. If you are training to climb Mount Everest, look no further!

Crosley tower was clearly inspired by the conglomeration of several autistic minds under the guise of "Brutalism architecture." No other kind of person could think a gigantic solid-cast pour of concrete, perfectly symmetrical and devoid of distinctive patterns/features, could possibly look beautiful by any stretch of the imagination.

And, yet, it's this distinctiveness that gives Crosley its special charm. It's its own little island out in a sea of superfluous appearance. Every other building is trying to put on a show, but then, hey!, there's Crosley with nothing to hide and everything to lay bare.

In this regard, the Crosley tower can be seen as a physical rendition of autism, and offers passerbyers a glimpse into the autistic minds of its designers. Much like the Crosley tower, those with autism really express their true self all the time and don't put up with superficial physical details.

It is fascinating all the amazing and brilliant all ways that autists shape and transform the world we live in, and I think the world would be a very boring place without them. Certainly, the UC campus would be very boring without their hideously beautiful construction of the Crosley tower.

So, in conclusion, thank you everyone out there with autism for brightening the world we live in and filling it with fascinating, unexpected diversity in all places and in all forms.

Also, FYI, Crosley ain't going anywhere. It's the only building on campus where it's remotely safe to handle high-level radioactive materials, deadly bioweapon-grade diseases, CSL Level 4 ultra-max dangerous/explosive/corrosive chemicals, and magnets so strong they can suck the iron out of your blood. It's the only building on campus where they don't even need fire safety protocols because (A.) a fire ain't going nowhere in Crosley and (B.) the local firefighters wouldn't have the radiation/chemical protective equipment necessary to safely enter the building in case of a fire anyway.

Also, FYI, everyone saying it would be difficult to take down Crosley probably hasn't even thought it through really. All one would need to do is clear out the whole middle section of crossly foundation to roof one big open area, then use a combination of cranes, controlled explosives, and high tensile wires to break off each crown one-by-one so that it falls inwards into the cleared out middle space of the building. The foundation of Crosley is plenty strong enough to contain a few couple-hundred-ton slabs of concrete falling in on it because Crosley is strong and Crosley is forever.

My eyes open from slumber, I quickly get dress and rush outside. Toast in mouth and MacBook tucked neatly under my shoulder,

“I can’t wait to see him!”

Rushing up the street, I begin to see his head, he know I’m coming. Big brother always knows 🙂 This is the best part of my morning. Knowing that Crosley will see me once more—after our bitter departure the night before.

Oh so long
Oh so strong
The concrete and height
Everything I like
You are where I belong

I only use this building for cardio with its 16 flights of stairs, but it houses a variety of labs and professors' offices. The tower can be seen from almost any point on campus, although it won't be here much longer. It is shedding concrete, and plans for demolition are in the works (no time soon though, its design and proximity to other buildings are two major wrenches in the plan). Enjoy the workout and despise the menace while it lasts.

Can be scary at times and is poorly designed. However, it is a trademark of UC that can be seen from almost anywhere on campus and would make me along with others sad if it ever actually got torn down.
