Buyer Beware - Do Not Do Business With Camping World

My husband and I recently visited Camping World with the intention of purchasing two campers as gifts for our adult children. After spending a couple of hours browsing and negotiating, we settled on two identical models and agreed on a price. However, when it came time to finalize the paperwork, we were shocked to find that the price had increased by $5,000.

We were told this increase was due to a mandatory “Let’s Go Camping” package, which had never been discussed during negotiations. When we expressed our concern and pointed out the agreed-upon price, the general manager was dismissive and rude, essentially telling us “too bad.” Feeling deceived and disrespected, we walked away without making the purchase.

We later found similar campers elsewhere and completed our purchase with a much better experience. Unfortunately, the poor treatment didn’t end there. The following day, the Camping World salesperson texted me, and after I informed him we had purchased elsewhere, he responded in an unprofessional and hostile manner—accusing me of wasting his time, calling me names, and even making inappropriate remarks about my children.

I eventually had to block the number due to the continued harassment. I did file a complaint, but I don’t expect any action to be taken based on how things were handled.

After this experience, I looked up reviews and discovered many other customers have had similar issues. I strongly encourage others to read reviews carefully and avoid doing business with Camping World.

Camped for the night with electric hookup for free as Good Sam members. In the morning our hot water heater would not work. The service folks worked on it and got it running and they would not take our money. Thanks so much and as you said it is a learning curve!

I wouldn’t mess with this place. Told me a price to pay for a camper used 5 times. Hookup and drive it there. There software wasn’t accurate and there pricing was off 10k. Wasted a full morning. Nothing like, here’s a free something for our screw up. Go outside and camper was extended out and nothing put back as it was. Would be afraid to buy something from them knowing the service was like this.

Always heard Camping World horror stories so here’s mine. Advertised a camper for $24k on their website with minor hail damage. Spoke to salesman Jacob and sale manager John who both confirm the price along with a $500 doc fee for a grand total out the door of $24.5k. Both salesmen very helpful and accommodating. I speak to my lender get everything set up and then the dealership GM pulls the rug out in the 11th hour and says unless I purchase the “Let’s Go Camping” package for another $2k he won’t sell it. Total out the door suddenly became $27k+. So unless I want to pay $2k for batteries, propane and a tech to show me which buttons do what I have no deal. Just a shame Jacob & John have to work for a place that costs them a potential sale and misleads their customers. Buyer beware. Better to steer clear of Camping World in Summerset, SD.

Josh, Tom and Coreene in the Service department were very helpful in diagnosing an electrical problem on our new Escape 5.0 fifth wheel. They took the time, out of a very busy Saturday holiday weekend to detect, and reconnect with new cable, a loose lithium battery cable. They also discovered a fried Ford F-150 12V fuse. We were traveling through, and it helped us get to our destination with no further problems. We are very grateful for their excellent customer service!

Went in for parts for my coach. Knowledge of the part was good however was pushed off to amazon. The staff has changed tremendously of the 20 years of dealing and I must say I'm not really that impressed.

I have always heard "horror" stories about purchasing from CW. Because of what ive heard/read, i swore i wouldn't buy from them. We spent a month in SD and saw that the nearby (Summerset) CW had a used 5th wheel that we were interested in. It was a 2019 Jayco Northpoint 383FKWS. We drove to the dealership to take a look. Everyone was nice, helpful and interested in helping us. We ended up making the purchase. The process was very easy. Brandi (Finace mger) was easy to deal with. They gave us the numbers up front and kept their word throughout the process. The GM (John) was also involved. I was super surprised at how easy everything came together. No glitches, no surprises.
The only issue I seem to be experiencing is with the right tail light assembly. This assembly was found to be inoperative (half doesn't work) during the inspection. I was told they would order a replacement and ship it to me. As of yet, this hasn't happened. I've emailed Brandi three times now. The initial response was she would turn this over to the service department. Since that response I've sent two more emails asking for an update and neither email has garnered a response. This is the reason for submitting a four star review vs a five star. Hopefully I'll get a response soon. If not, I'll be calling.
