I had the honor of volunteering on two occasions for high altitude clinical research. Absolutely fascinating and rewarding experiences. The lab is a time capsule with photos, letters, and various objects that date back to its inception.

I stayed at the Barcroft Research station in early Sep 2024 as part of an arrangement with some SF Bay Area astronomy clubs that let us setup our telescopes for daytime (solar) and night time observing and imaging. The location is unique at this altitude. Facility staff are friendly. The facility is well run and makes it easy to observe/image the sky. The only caveat is that the road to get to Barcroft is long and rough in place - not suited to 2 wheel drive vehicles with low clearance.

It's open to people only special occasions. These 5 star review is for open gate parking to white mountain hiking allowed on special days in July and Sept.
