I used Balance Point for an energy audit and a retrofit when they were first starting out...I think it was back in 2007. I just found their website so should have posted this earlier. They were terrific. I did take the contractor classes for doing Home Performance Audits and met the Balance Point founders when they were teaching some of the classes. I was impressed with their honesty and ethics and their ability to explain things in terms I could understand so I hired them to do an audit and then hired them to do the retrofit. My energy bills went down to $50 per month and the only reason they are higher now is PG&Es constant rate increases. They were easy to work with, showed up on time, and cleaned up each day. My energy bills are very reasonable, my house is extremely comfortable (no hot and cold spots) and I rarely have to dust now (an extra side benefit to having it sealed properly). In 2008, I was looking for a green building contractor to build a hypoallergenic bathroom from scratch, and the pickings were very slim back then. Dan and Gavin had already done a full home energy performance review on the house, and when I discovered that they are also building contractors, I hired them. I think my bathroom project was their first major job. They are totally committed to green, environmentally-conscious, and energy efficient construction, before anyone had heard of a Green Building Council. In those days, that was hard to find. They faced some very complex technical challenges, including how to heat both the water for the bathroom, and also space heating. My bedroom already had radiant floor heating, and they built the new bathroom with another loop of floor heating. To confuse things even further, the on-demand Takagi heater they installed also ended up heating another bathroom and the laundry room. It was tricky. The plumbing looks like something out of the engine room of the Starship Enterprise. A few months later, in winter 2008-2009, Dan came back to correct some issues with the heating system. It kept shutting down. He located the problem and fixed it quickly. Since the winter of 2008-09, the system has worked flawlessly. More recently, another contractor named Tom joined Balance Point. Before he joined Dan and Gavin and was converted to green construction, Tom did several large projects on our house. He also completed upgraded my sister's house. His work is always completely impeccable. If you care about energy efficient, environmentally-conscious, hypoallergenic, very high quality construction, this team is as good as it gets in Nevada County.

These guys are very good at diagnosing problems within homes. They speak nationally as front runners in the home performance and HVAC industry and I had the pleasure of meeting them in Tulsa Oklahoma as respected professionals through the AEP/PSO Utility Rebate Program. Their day long seminar and question and answer session helped me develop a better understanding of problems that exist within homes and what to look for when conducting ACCA Manual J and ACCA Manual D. If not for their presentation in Tulsa, my company, Morris Heat and Air would not be the company it is today.
