OSPREY POWER ! My wife and I ride our eBikes to the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve on Sunday. We looked for the Bald Eagles but with them nesting on private property next to the preserve they were nowhere in sight. Oh we have been told by Ranger Gwen that they have an Eaglet. NOT MUCH HAPPENIN' ! There was very little birdlife about on such a lovely day...we did see a few Black Skimmers over the water in the distance. As is our habit we continued on to the Back Bay Science Center to use the clean restrooms ( his & hers )....open 10am to 2pm on Sundays only. Of course we knew there was a nesting pair of Ospreys. In fact Ranger Gwenn told us there is one baby. BUT FIRST ! When we arrived there was an Osprey ( Dad ) on a pole with a huge fish catch.....we later identified it as a Pacific Barracuda. Naturally we took 10 million pics....close up opportunities like this don't happen very often !

FIRST TIME HERE ! You know we have passed this building a few times over the years but paid it no attention. When we found out last week that an Osprey nest was right beside this science center we had to check things out. Today we rode our eBikes straight here and saw the Osprey couple in their nest atop the pole. PRETTY COOL ! No eggs or babies yet. There didn't seem to be too much going on onside the science center ( maybe Sundays are quiet ) so we gave it a miss. We will be back to check on the progress of the Ospreys !

HA HA....not much going on here for us. My wife and I rode over here on Sunday expecting tho use the bathrooms. The place shut up shop at 2pm. There are no bathrooms on the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve trail.

Wonderful place to visit with guides to teach you about the back bay, show you the touch exhibits, and lots of skeletons to examine. The best part is that it is free!
