I worked there in the late 60s. There were some actual rocket scientists. We called them Misslemen. It was isolated. Edwards AFB was one of two sites of the rocket sled. The old TV Show, "The Man And The Challenge", featured a rocket sled in the show's beginning each week. I got to see lots of advanced aviation technology while there. Sonic booms we frequently herd during the day.
