I recently placed my mom in White City Cemetery and I am glad to know she is in such a tranquil place. The grounds are very well kept. The office manager is very professional and compassionate. I am very pleased with the service provided. Update: when originally making arrangements and ordering the plaque, I was told it would take 90 days. I waited 90 days only to find out it came in 2 weeks after it was ordered. I was annoyed because I was told she would call me as soon as it came in. Naturally I could have visited my mom's crypt sooner. I understand there is a board of directors for this non-profit but probably impossible to write to them.

The 29 acre cemetery was founded in 1894 and chartered in 1902. The White City Cemetery has been the final resting place for Fort Pierce residents for over 100 years. It is one of the few remaining nonprofit cemeteries left in the state. It is believed that the first person buried in the cemetery was 3 day old James Lafayette Smith. At the time of their child's death his parents were staying with J. Frank Bell who allowed the baby to be buried on his property. He along with Edward J. Traynor deeded the first 1 1/4 acres for the cemetery. 20 more acres were added in 1941 and the last eight acres were purchased in the 1980's. The White City Cemetery was the only cemetery in the county that would allow the burial of Germans during WWII.

In 2006 the cemetery suffered a setback when two employees were arrested for stealing over $175,000 from cemetery funds giving new meaning to the term grave robbing. The loss of the money put the future of the cemetery in jeopardy but the White City Cemetery Association was determined to make sure the cemetery would stay open for at least the next 100 years. The association is made up of a board elected by the owners of the cemetery plots.

On my visit the cemetery seems to have recovered well from a time when financial matters were so dire that the federal and state governments had tax liens on the property. Today the graves rest under towering live oaks dripping in Spanish moss. The grounds look well maintained and a peaceful aura permeates the park like setting. I noticed a lot of graves of veterans and I always thank them for the service when I pass. Towards the side I found a section of older graves and some predated the founding date of the cemetery. In the back of the cemetery are mausoleums. From a historic perspective this is tranquil place to come and pay your respects to the pioneers of Fort Pierce.

I rarely write reviews but this time I've had such a terrible experience with the headstone staff. I've been waiting for a year for a headstone I ordered, I was told it would take 6-7 months due to covid but it's been an entire year without answers. I recommend you to please not go to this place if possible it's been hard to even get in contact with the staff after countless voicemails and visits. I am so disappointed with the treatment I have received and I would consider somewhere else but this place. I am still waiting for the job to get done a year later even though the headstone is done she has failed to make a simple call to arrange it. This last time I was fortunate enough to get in contact with the staff the lady was so unprofessional and rude. Do not recommend!
