I currently am under treatment at UAMS Cancer Center. I wish I could say that the care I receive from my oncologist is beneficial to me, but it is not. His current support staff is lacking in professionalism as well. I have been ignored in my concerns with medication & treatments. It is frustrating to be told by a staff member that what I am experiencing is invalid. To negate my experience dealing with my diagnosis is the epitome of unprofessionalism. I want nothing more than for the new year to come, so that I may transfer my care to a more professional facility as well as file a complaint regarding the practice of this clinic. It shows a total lack of compassion to make someone with cancer suffer. Shame on this clinic!

This place only sees dollar signs. I had An appointment there three weeks prior. They wait till I get there to tell me that my insurance Denied my Procedure. I stay an hour and a half away. They called me twice to for me to confirm that I was Coming. The proper thing for them to do Was to let me know that my insurance denied it. To make a long story short, It was a blank trip. So they called me a few days later about another appointment. I made it perfectly clear to Them , That if it was about an MRI, We will not be making this appointment. I was on the phone for two hours with UAMS, Telling them I’m not gonna make another blank trip. After I talk with several people on the phone, They told me just a follow up with my doctor. Three weeks later I get there again And they flat out, lied to me. In other words, another blank trip

I can't say enough good things about my experience here! My journey took place during Covid, so I was basically by myself for most all of my treatment. Dr. Kumaran and team took time to explain, answer questions, reassure me, and gave me hope! I was able to have all the necessary treatment (including SCT) done right here in Arkansas. They are like family now. We are very fortunate to have such a fine hospital and cancer institute in our state.

After hours staff are rude. Unsympathetic. Lack of empathy and cutting me off when I’m speaking. I started communicating with my oncologist nursing staff at 10:15 Friday morning and by 7 pm nothing had been done or communicated with me., I’m asking for a refill of a med for nausea that I need going into the weekend. Instead I’ll spend the weekend vomiting my guts out. When a ball gets dropped it’s the cancer patient that suffers. We suffer enough. This is very frustrating

My ordeal was traumatic. I had major gut wrenching stomach surgery. My experience in recovery was very caring. Once out of recovery tho, I needed to stay in the hospital and that level of care drastically became disappointing. Supposedly pain medication orders from my surgeon did not transfer from the recovery stage to my staying on the floor stage so the nurse refused to give me any pain medication. She stated there were no orders for it so she could not do anything. Common sense did not kick in. I requested her to call my doctor and after many times of her not wanting to bother anyone, she said she did call the resident on duty and was told I could have Tylenol. The obvious pain distress I was in was either not seen by the nurse or chosen to be overlooked. It turned out, when my surgeon’s team arrived the next morning, I should have been given morphine every three hours throughout the night, instead I received one dose of Tylenol. How does this happen at a training hospital? In my case, I was already in pain from having had surgery but the additional unnecessary and excruciating pain caused by the staff could have been avoided. After years of being in business, one would think they would have proper supervision and protocols in place and have extremely good patient care but this is not the case; nurses are overwhelmed and rushed and for the most part, fairly new. Although most nurses are nice, it does seem they are only programmed to give medication at a scheduled time and anything else is beyond their scope of reasoning.

I wanted to briefly share my thoughts about UAMS Cancer Institute to make others aware of what they may experience if they choose to be treated at this facility. The majority of non-professional staff members there are kind and seem to genuinely care. However, the doctors in charge have behaved in an unprofessional and negligent manner. It does not seem appropriate for me to mention any names or share specific details, but I can state that my wife would not have started treatment at UAMS if she knew in advance what this place was like. The commercials on television paint a picture of UAMS Cancer Institute being a first-class, patient-centered facility. Our experience has been one of disappointment and frustration from repeated negligence by the professional staff here. My wife has been so kind and patient, hoping things would improve, but the same problems continue to occur. I just thought others should know…

Made an appointment but it seems the receptionist didn't actually set my appointment up, so I have wasted gas, time, and money to get my thyroid checked to be turned away on the day I am positive I had my appointment. Gross negligence and a disregard of human health. Some hospital.
