Noticed I didn't describe my review while looking at my google account. I brought my iMac in for service that I purchased at Happy Mac because the color on my machine was creating a gradient. They told me my monitor was fine after holding my computer for 3 days. When I went to pick it up they told me a owed them $90 for updates they installed that I never asked them to do. And would not give back my computer till after I paid them. So I paid $90 for them to install some updates to my machine, that I never asked them to do and they didn't even acknowledge the problem I brought my computer in for the first place.

I am not sure where all these negative comments are coming from because I have never had anything but awesome customer service from HappyMac. As a local business owner myself I have relied on them for all of my business and personal needs as well as referred multiple friends and family to their shop, all of which are as impressed as I am with their offerings. Jim (Not sure of his last name) is by far the best customer service person I have worked with in all of my experiences just about anywhere. Very polite, understanding and knows what he is talking about. Very down to earth, without all the cooperate tag lines and policies you get at Best Buy, he tells your how it is and sells you a product that fits your needs, not something you don't need, which in return saves me money. Their computer pricing matches what Apple online offers, so I can buy with confidence and get my product the same day most of the time which is major plus. I have had multiple computers serviced at their location also and everything is always handled wonderfully and professionally. Their pricing again is competitive with Apple stores I have visited in Madison and Milwaukee. Macs are more expensive to fix, plain and simple. You don't buy an Audi and expect parts and repairs to run at Chevy and Ford pricing do you ? What is so different about a high end product in any category ? But you also expect that Audi to be a superior car and run 300,000 miles with fewer problems. Macs fall into that category. I have Macs that are 12 years old and run fine as the day I purchased it. The repairs cost more but the longevity you get from a Mac outweighs and offsets those costs. So if you cant muster higher repair costs, don't buy a product you cant afford to maintain. Champagne taste at beer prices sound familiar ? And a dog in the store ? Come on, who cares ! I once had my car stolen from a black man ! I don't think or should think every black man is going to steal my car. A dog ? Really ? A bad review because of a dog. No sorry I feel that these bad reviews were written by whiners that didn't want to pay to have their computer serviced or are the competition putting out a bad name for this great local business. Also keep in mind, as a business owner I understand that its hard to keep prices competitive with the big cooperate stores, but I think they do a good just at keeping their prices within reason. Don't listen to the other reviews ! Take it from someone that has been there multiple times and has always received nothing but the very best in customer service !

Years ago I went to here for help with fixing my MacBook Pro. It was before I had internet or a smartphone and I couldn’t post a review at the time so I’m doing it now. My MacBook was doing this thing where it would shut off randomly. I took it here and they plugged it in for a diagnosis. They didn’t find anything and they charged me $80 fo the diagnosis. I took it to the Genius Bar at Apple and they diagnosed it for free as a failing graphics card and sure enough, a half year later the graphics card quit. NEVER take your Mac here for diagnosing. If you live in Wausau it’s worth avoiding the fee and driving down to the Genius Bar at the Apple store in Madison.

*Reply. In answer to your reply, you mentioned nothing about the $80 service fee, I had no issue with anything else you did or didn’t do. What I had issue with is the whopping $80 fee. If you don’t find anything in a diagnostics test, it would make sense to either it be free or maybe a small service charge. Anything to build customer trust and appreciation man. Take a hint from Apple. But whatever, it’s your business, just know that I will NEVER be back for service.

My computer was formatted and needed the OS reinstalled. Apple sent me to Happy Mac to get this done since it kept erroring out at 23 seconds remaining. I tried calling numerous times and left messages with no return call. I finally just showed up there with my computer. They told me it would probably be done the next day and it was going to be $100. I left my computer and asked them to just call when it was done. The next day I tried calling since I didn't receive a call, no return call, no one ever picked up any of my calls no matter what time it was. Finally I went to the store to find out if it was ready and it was "just finished" (even though the finished time on the pick up form was 5 hours before that). Whatever, at least I have my computer. Bring it back to the office and I can't install any of the programs I need to work because they have reformatted the computer to a case sensitive format. Spent another hour on tech support with Apple to only have to send it back to Apple to get it fixed. Now I've spent 100 for nothing and STILL can't get a phone call back. I will never go back to Happy Mac. The only reason they get 1 star is because the person who I talked to both days was pleasant enough, even though he thought I couldn't figure out how to tell time and lied about when it was finished.

Went to Happy Mac on several occasions, mostly in attempt to "Buy Local". First thing I noticed is that the hardware prices are noticeably higher when compared to other brick & mortar and online stores. Which is fine as I am sure it is difficult to compete against big-box stores and the internet.

The Happy Mac service is equally as poor and disorganized making simple interactions very time consuming and frustrating.

I will not be returning to this store, Wal-Mart and Best Buy are right down the road and provide better prices and customer service.

I mistakenly thought that since this store is an Apple Reseller they would stand behind Apple-branded merchandise they sell in their store. Not the case. Save yourself a headache, avoid this store, and just shop directly with Apple, as you're going to have to deal with them anyway to get any service more than a shoulder shrug.
UPDATE: Apple came through and is replacing the defective merchandise free of charge. Again, no thanks to Happy Mac who said there was nothing they could do.

I've had several Mac products repaired and serviced at Happy Mac. I had a defective iSight Camera that was repaired under warranty on my 2007 iMac. Then my hard drive went out and they were able to recover all my files and install a new hard drive.

I think that when things go bad, social media is used more often than when things go good. I've been a Mac user since system 6 was developed and I usually am able to fix problems that happen, but when a hard drive fails, it is good to have a resource that can retrieve data. I do use time machine so a disk crash is not that terrible but they did not need my backup to retrieve my files

I just bought a new Imac (2015) from them with a solid state drive and they helped me migrate programs and my files from my 2007 iMac when 2 methods of migration using Migration Assistant between the two iMacs failed. They suggested a third way which finally worked.

As to Mathews' experience, he did not say that he bought his Mac from Happy Mac, only that he expected a reseller to "stand behind" the equipment. Happy Mac is NOT an Apple Store, so they are not the manufacturer. If you bought your Mac from mailorder, or directly from Apple, or another store; they are responsible for exchanging your computer. If you bought your computer from Happy Mac, then I agree with you.

We recommend Happy Mac for computer issues. We had a crashed laptop and they were able to successfully transfer all our data from the old laptop to a different laptop. Hil was exceptionally accommodating.
