We spent about 45 minutes at the center and could have spent at least another hour to fully enjoy the educational center and trails. We learned about the Kenai area, used the virtual goggles, and walked one small trail.

A nice place to learn about the wildlife of the Kenai Peninsula. Did you know there were no laws concerning harvesting animals until about 1902? Before that anyone could shoot, buy, or sell just about any animal they could get.

Hands on exhibits let you get in touch with the surrounding nature, like the feel of real bears fur.

Facilities have restrooms and water.

Fun education center. Great trails to a pothole lake. Take bug spray. Cute gift shop. Elsewhere in the refuge are trails to hike. This one pictured was 4 miles round trip to a skilak lake overlook. Was moderate difficulty. Beautiful vista.

It was great to have an open visitor center and clear trails in early May. The trails are beautiful even when the trees are just starting to leaf out.

Made me 2021. Lots of great hiking. A significant portion of the area we have been through though was devastated by the 2019 wildfires.
