I visited this institute as part of one of my college classes, being here made me feel dirty. There were monkeys housed in steel cages, and in the bamboo pit - there were so many of them with hardly any enrichment. The enclosure is depressing with hardly any shade. I’ve included a pic from google earth of what it looks like. It’s just dirt basically. I left here crying wondering why we as a human race allow this to happen. These monkeys deserve a way better life. We do not need to be conducting research on monkeys. We are the only race that uses other animals/species to help ours. Illnesses and diseases are part of nature, testing on these animals should be banned. If we want to conduct testing to help cure diseases then have human trials. If nobody is willing to consent then let nature play out the way it is supposed to.

They keep the animals in steel cages and fought the NIH on the release of chimps. The NIH already stated the need for animal testing to this degree was outdated, but the people who work here still want to torture animals. It's sick.

Cruelty, prodding and death of caged primates for horrible experimentation knows no bounds at terrifying this "research institute!" They claim they must expand their facilities and ask for more of the taxpayers money because of a shortage of primates!! Yet in 2020 they had 1,939 primates being held to experimented/tortured to their eventual death! The use of nonhuman primates in research is widely known to be costly, time-consuming, and largely ineffective in improving human health. Covid experiments have not produced a single result because primates are not human!! WHY NOT HAVE LIVE CAMERAS TO SHOW THE PRIMATES SCREAMING? PLEASE STOP!!! SAN ANTONIO DON'T APPROVE ONE MORE CENT FOR THIS EVIL TORTURE PALACE!!

A leader in the biosciences in San Antonio and making a tangible difference in human health for the entire world through scientific research. One-of-a-kind institute for graduate students and postdocs training in biomedical research and veterinary care. Also very committed to educating the public about science and working with local K-12 teachers and students to get excited about science and learn more about STEM career opportunities.

Animal testing is highly controversial but Texas Biomed certainly does what they can to improve the lives of their animals. Not everyone will agree with the work done here but you can’t deny the fact that the biomedical advancements discovered at this institute have the potential to save thousands of lives. I’m giving five stars because this is a place full of people who care for their animals until the last day.

All of these negative reviews concern the ethics of animal testing -- nothing in regards to the actual research center itself. Will be visiting the center very soon, and have given 4 stars due to the ground-breaking research that goes on at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute.

For those that give a one-star, and have never been to a research institute or have ever worked in research, please educate yourselves. Remember, modern medicine has depended on animal research for quite some time.

Using the animal model is incredibly inaccurate, inefficient, and cruel. I am disgusted that my tax dollars are going to fund such bizarre, painful, and absurd experiments to line the pockets of the researchers and CEOs of these institutions. If you're doing nothing wrong then live stream your animal research and let us watch it. If you're so confident in your research then allow for public debate and dialogue with the many scientists and doctors who oppose using the animal model.
