This hackerspace is rarely open anymore, but is still one of the best in the LA/ OC area.
While it's got a great assortment of tools, laser cutters, 3d printers, an electronics bench, etc , it's really the people who show up who make it interesting.

Awesome hacker-space! Everyone here is friendly. The shop is normally closed to the public without appointment though. But, once a month they host an potluck that is open to anyone. It's a great chance to check out the shop and hangout.

Southern California's first hackerspace! Definitely check out the monthly potlucks.
All in the same day you can amputate your leg with a large format band saw; weld together a new killamajig from kitchen knives & garden rakes; see how many volts a pickle can handle before it starts ejecting plasma; see how fast a quadcopter has to fly into a wall to dent it; use a CNC mill to make ninja stars out of your old PlayStation 2 motherboard; use a laser cutter to make Hello Kitty shaped bandages for your ninja star wounds; 3D design and print a new, better, stronger, karate-chop-action leg for your knee nub that should have stopped bleeding by now; and then even head to the electronics bench to make an arduino powered Emergency Party Button.
